There Is Nothing Like The Simple Life
When John lost his high paying job, he thought his life was over. How was he ever going to be able to afford to maintain his expensive lifestyle? How would he attract women? John had dedicated his life to living in the fast lane. When he suddenly was forced to slow down, it felt like he had ground to a halt.
After the shock wore off, John picked himself up again and started pounding the pavement, looking for work. He hadn’t lost his job because he wasn’t good at it, so he was confident that if a job was available, he would have a good shot at getting it.
It took almost half a year before John realized that he was dreaming. He was an upmarket real estate salesperson. That was fine. It was just that the market had dried up, so he wasn’t needed. He couldn’t even get in the door on a straight commission. Everyone in town had already cut back on staff and the sales staff they had weren’t going to accept having a newcomer steal what few leads they had.
In a strange twist of fate, John ended up going back to one of those offices and giving them his penthouse condo to sell. That was one bit of good luck he had going for him, because he had bought it very cheaply when it went up for foreclosure many years before. On the other hand, he sold it cheap, too. When it all came out of the wash, he realized he couldn’t afford to live in the expensive part of town anymore.
Reluctantly, John moved out of the big city when he finally found a job in an office in a little tourist town about two hours drive outside of town. Instead of investing in a small home in that area, he decided to hang onto the cash that he had and rent a small home instead.
It was unfurnished, so he had to go out looking for furniture. Clearly, the big king sized bed from his old place wasn’t going to fit into his new bedroom, so he bought a loft bed instead. It took a little getting used to, but after awhile he thought it was fun. He felt like a little kid who had scored the top bunk.
The modern bar stools he’d had in his penthouse looked out of place, as did all his other expensive furniture. He kept one lounge chair that he loved, but sold the rest.
He replaced his old stools with some wood bar stools that he bought from an elderly gentleman in his neighborhood who had a garage workshop. They were beautiful stools and as a bonus, John became good friends with the old man.
Over time, John adjusted to his new lifestyle and actually began to appreciate all the advantages it had to offer. Eventually, his old fast paced lifestyle seemed crazy to him. He felt relaxed and at home here. He needn’t have worried about attracting girls, either. He met the perfect woman there and now she is his wife.
